Services
At Vet Hospital Shelly Beach, we offer professional service from highly trained staff, to do the very best for your pet:
We offer a complete range of small animal services, including the following:
- General health checks and vaccinations
All animals recieve a thorough health exam with each visit, so that any problems may be identified and managed effectively, even if they are not yet apparent to you, the owner.
The annual check-up is not just to receive a vaccine booster, but a chance to evaluate your pet's health status.
- Medical diagnostics and hospitalisation
We have on-site laboratory facilities to perform most required blood tests to enable us to rapidly assess and obtain a diagnosis for your pet.
In more complicated cases, samples can be sent to external laboratories for additional testing.
A registered veterinary nurse will monitor your hospitalised pets, while all cages have blankets and hot water bottles if needed, to keep them comfortable.
- Surgery
Routine sterilisations and elective proc
edures can all be booked through reception, Monday to Friday.
Emergency procedures, such as bite wounds and fractures, will be treated as soon as the patient is stable enough for the anaesthetic, and such procedures will be done over weekends if needed.
- Theatre
Our theatre is equipped with human grade gas anaesthetics, and all patients are monitored while under anaesthetic with ECG and oxygen monitors.
Patients under our care routinely go home within 3 hours of coming out of theatre, with little or no lingering effects of anaesthesia, and are able to eat and move around without assistance.
- Other diagnostic services
The hospital is equipped with a digital X-ray machine, allowing very detailed X-rays to be taken when needed, which can also be provided to you on a CD if required.
We also make use of ultrasound with colour flow mode, to assist in making a diagnosis and monitoring medical conditions for your pet.
- Behaviour consultations
Sr Lewis has a lot of experience in animal behaviour, and is available to assist with behavioral advise for common, and not-so-common, behaviour problems your pet might have. If needed, a full consultation at your home to assess your pet and its environment can be arranged.
- House calls
If needed, we can come and see your pet at your home, and either treat it there, or transport it back to the hospital for further treatment.
- Other services offered:
- Dental care, including scaling and polishing teeth, extractiong where needed, and other oral surgery.
- Dietary and nutritional advise
- Parasite control and advise
- Exotic animals and birds:
- We can provide for basic medical and surgical requirements of small mammals, and can carry out basic procedures for your feathered companions.
- Unfortunately, we do not have facilites to diagnose and hospilalise seriously ill birds.
- We are also not equipped to manage reptiles or monkeys
